Jifar Association’s first project. In a suburb 8km north of Jimma, Jiren Elementary School’s primary school building was on the brink of collapse, so planning began on rebuilding the structure.
The new 3- classroom structure was built by local contractor with materials sourced locally with the exception of imported structural steel rebar. The remainder of the structure is from 100% local materials, efficiently designed using a reinforced concrete column structure supported by a rock foundation, covered by a tin roof and surrounded by compacted interlocking hydraform bricks. This project is part 1 of multiple projects to come.
